February is for planning. . .sort of

As soon as the first warm days arrive in late winter, I am ready to go! I’ve got graph paper, fabulous colored pencils, and a list a mile long of what I want to plant. I’m so motivated to plan the perfect garden. This will be the year! Then, a baby wakes up, I realize I forgot to pack an afternoon snack for the park, and the garden plans take a backseat to parenting (again). If you’re like me, I’m here to say, it’s okay. One day, we’ll plan the perfect garden, but maybe this year we just have some fun in the sun and see what we can grow.

If you need a little something to get started, but don’t have time for a grand plan, I’ve got you covered. Below is a plan for an early spring 3 x 5 raised bed. In the RVA area, this plan would be good to put in place in early March. I’ve included my favorite variety below each crop along with how deep to plant the seed and how far apart to plant and thin. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!
